Physical Education

All classes have weekly timetabled physical education lessons offering a range of games and sporting activities.

Upper School Athletics Day (Classes 8 – 12)

The Upper School Athletics Day is held annually, usually at the start of the year. It is an action packed day where students test their athletic ability in both social and competitive events. Students are divided into different Houses and compete for points in order to be awarded the ‘Victory Lion’.

Lower School Athletics Day (Classes 3 – 7 and Class 9)

The Lower School Athletics Day is also held annually, usually occurs at the end of the year. It is run by Class 9 students. Although there is an element of competition for classes 5 – 7, the main focus of the day is to encourage students to find joy in participating in physical activity.

School Cross Country (Classes 5 – 12)

The School Cross Country occurs in term two. It is for students in classes 5 – 12 and is organised by Class 8. The course is usually 3-5km in length and is held on the school site and on the neighbouring subdivision.

Class 5 Greek Olympic Camp

The study of Ancient Greece and the athletic disciplines of that time form a major focus of the Class Five Physical Education Curriculum. Towards the end of the year Class Five travel to Hastings and participate in an Olympic Camp. Here they test their athleticism against students from Steiner Schools throughout New Zealand.
